Rope vs Spot Leak Sensors: Which Do You Need?

Water leak detector types: use a rope when water can appear anywhere along a run, and a spot probe when it pools in one tray.

Choosing between water leak detector types is a placement decision, not a brand decision. A rope watches a line. A spot probe watches a puddle.

Rope when the path is long

The rope water leak sensor reports wet or dry along a conductive cable, plus an optional zone index. Lay it on the lowest path under air handlers, trenches, and pipe runs. One node can cover a long run. It will not tell you the exact metre that got wet. Name zones in the commissioning pack so the alarm points at an aisle.

Spot when water collects

The spot leak probe belongs in a drip tray, bund, or pump base. If the electrodes sit on a raised boss, detection is late. Clean deposits during maintenance so a dirty probe does not look dry.

Same gateway, different decoders

Both kits join one LoRaWAN application on a plant room. Do not paste one decoder onto both models. The facility monitoring page shows how rooms combine rope, spot, door, and level without treating them as one payload.

A 100-unit stock trial is enough to prove the decoder on a real gateway before a larger order. EU868 and US915 are the standard plans. Confirm any other band on the quote. Manufacturing history — 25 years and 2.5 million units — does not change which geometry you need on the floor.
